educate don't segregate
Homophobia exists in schools, colleges and universities. Bullying causes permanent damage to young people and blights the schools and colleges where it takes place. Only 6% of British schools have fully inclusive anti-bullying polices which address homophobic bullying, Gay Surrey seek change from Surrey's Schools to help this percentage drop.
Gay Surrey's Lifestyle Survey - Youth Report 2007
At the beginning of 2007, we launched our Lifestyle Survey. It was the first attitude and opinion survey specifically designed and targeted towards the LGBT community in Surrey. The topics range across a number of public and commercial services. This report takes a closer look at the results and responses surrounding young people in Surrey.
Some of our aims are to -
- find out whether schools have adequate measures in place to tackle bullying
- register what actions have been taken and how the school enforces their policy, from a policy on their website to "real life"
- foster a comprehensive approach to and comprehensive perspective on the hate crime problem
- to encourage dialogue in the education sector of Surrey to initiate a coordinated County strategy to effect change.
- to develop ongoing partnerships with agencies and associations to create effective strategies and educational resources geared toward colleges and universities
- Spread the word with our "educate not segregate" poster
- have your say and tell us about anything that has happened to you
